During World Ware II, Hitler was portrayed in American propaganda posters as an tyrannical ape, evil incarnate, or a diabolical villain. In 2005 Prince Harry of Wales has been photograph wearing a Halloween costume of a Nazi soldier. Socialite Paris Hilton was seen doing what seemed like a Nazi salute at a club in 2010. By no means would I ever consider Prince Harry or Paris Hilton as Nazi sympathizers so people are left with the question, why did they behave as such?

There is a growing number of viral internet memes that juxtapose Hitler and something considered cute, like kittens. There is a website devoted to Cats that Look Like Hitler. The website has all sorts of pictures with whose hair color make it resemble the Fuhrer. Another internet meme is that of a little kid dressed up as Hitler himself holding a near empty glass of orange juice with the LOL caption that reads I HAVE ELIMINATED ALL THE JUICE. Another popular Hitler viral meme is to take the clip from the movie The Downfall where Hitler throws a tantrum and dub it in English about some other current event such as the BP oil spill.

Is Hitler funny? I don’t think Hitler would have doing well in The Last Comic Standing but many are remixing a dark sense of humor with elements of the Third Reich. The swastika, the Nazi symbol, and even Hitler himself are being transformed via viral internet memes to a degree that even the Anti-Defamation League might one day even downgrade Hitler himself as a Jewish hate symbol.

There is nothing wrong with making a buck, and I am sure he will do okay, but by making a quick buck we actually short our users. Funny enough, Andrew has interviewed dozens of successful entrepreneurs that have made a successful business by providing free content to build a platform to spring board their business.

Leo Laporte has built a podcasting empire with shows like This Week in Tech, MacBreak Weekly, Security Now, FLOSS Weekly and many more. Leo podcasts are ad supported and he spent a lot of time in making sure the ads are relevant to his audience. Another example and another entrepreneur whom Andrew has interviewed is Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary started out by making video reviews of wines for his blog. The video reviews where free but they where also presented and sponsored by his real business Wine Library. Gary has now moved on to write a book Crush It! A similar story can be told of Seth Godin. Seth writes freely available essays on his blog and writes a large number of books based on his writing. Seth has also “spun off” several online business. It is important to make the mental distinction that the free blog, podcast, essays are distinct from the paid service, product, or business. You don’t monetize your community by slapping a price tag on them.

Newsday recently learned by putting up a pay wall to your content does not lead to immediate success. Newsday is a half a billion dollar business and recently made the move to make their content online accessible to paid subscribers for a $5/week subscription. It is reported that after three months Newsday was able to sign up a mere 35 subscribers. I know Andrew will fair better than Newsday, there are a lot of passionate startup founders and entrepreneurs, but the complete and utter failure of Newsday is worth nothing. Subscription model to web content is not an original idea. It is not a purple cow, it will not help you get viral, it introduces money to the equation and money has a different expectation.

It was reported that the Google boss said the following:

I would say that we did not understand how to communicate Google Buzz and its privacy. There was a lot of confusion when it came out… [last] Tuesday, and people thought that somehow we were publishing their email addresses and private information, which was not true.

Eric Schmidt is either a liar or a dummy, pick any two! With the issues outlined above, it is possible to find out peoples email address, and worst, find out people close to however you are virtually stalking, I mean friending. Let’s take a public example, let’s see if we can find Mark Zuckerberg’s close contacts and email address using Google Buzz.

First you will need to log into your GMail account and click into the Buzz inbox. If this is your first time, you will probably already have a few followers. Under the text area to enter your buzz, you will see a link that reads ‘Find people.’ There is a search box where you can find more people to follow. In this box, enter Mark Zuckerberg. Mark of Facebook fame should be one of the first few people that comes up. Originally I was going to do this experiment with Eric Schmidt but I had a tougher time finding his profile. You can follow Mark or view his public profile. Mark is probably busy playing Farm Ville or working on new Twitter features to copy so he probably has not configured the privacy settings of his Google Buzz account.

It might also be worth while to question if this is the real Mark Zuckerberg, we can not be sure, but if you see the people that are following this profile you will see that very connected Silicon Valley technologists are following this person.

Looking these folks up, on Google, you will find that they are early Facebook founders and fellow Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.

As the founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark is tech savvy so I can’t imagine him intentionally making his GMail address publicly available.

It is evident, that Eric Schmidt is not aware how easily it is to find private email address of Google Buzz users or he is lying. I think that Google should change their motto from “do no evil” to “it’s okay to do dumb shit with your privacy.” What I can’t believe is that apparently Google Buzz was in use inside of Google and by some of their 20,000++ super genius bar qualified engineers for a year or so and no one caught this.
